INFO
I’ve lived in many different places, and I wonder if the pieces of what constitutes home are scattered between them all. In the generations between my grandparents and me, it’s easier to think of what has been gained than it is to think of what has been lost. There are multitudes of differences that separate me from the past I am a part of. Space, language, culture, time. In my work, I ask what it means to be perpetually foreign — to the spaces I inhabit and to myself as well.
Annie Rui Qiu (邱烨) is an artist raised in Shanghai and living in New Hampshire. She works primarily in painting and sometimes in sculpture to explore themes of diaspora, belonging, and personal histories.
